History

This a a book report on “The life of General Stonewall Jackson” by M.L. Williamson

The book started out in Jackson’s childhood at about the age of five, he then lived with various relatives till he was of age to join West Point Military Academy.

At the Academy he was always behind the most of the class because he would not move to the next lesson until he had mastered the previous one.

He graduated seventeenth in his class, at the age of twenty-two he was given the rank of second lieutenant of artillery in the U.S. Army.

He then fought in the Spanish-American war, and was promoted to the rank of Major

then the Civil War broke out and he was given command of a group of men later to be known as “the Stonewall Regiment”

Before the end of the war a Confederate patrol thinking that he and his staff were Federals, opened fire and fatally wounded him, a week or so later he died at the rank of Lieutenant-General.

This book walks you through General Jackson Life in an informative and sometimes humorous way, but describes well his life and his great deeds.

What Are you Thankful For?

I have recently Finished reading a book titled “The Red Badge of Courage”.

The book is about a young man, Henry, who leaves home and joins the Union Army.

During his first battle he runs away.
Then he wanders around just thinking about weird things, until he finds his regiment and joins them again.
He fights in the next few battles without running away, and is noticed by the commader for his courage (he lead a charge into enemy lines).

At the end of the book, the Civil War is ending and he is preparing to return to his home.

At this point in my school I am reading about the Civil war, a bloody time in American History a time when Brother was pitted against Brother.

This war tore apart communities and families, it was a time when boys became men.

In the last book I read, Titled “Across Five Aprils” displays the hardships of the war.

Jethro’s Brothers go to war, three to the Union, one to the Confederates, which causes trouble for the family.

And then his father can no longer work in the fields, so he takes the role of the man of the house and does the work of a man, though he is only eleven years old.
